In September 2023, we surveyed over 500 female ultrarunners about the challenges they face. A whopping 34% told us safety was the number one barrier for women when it comes to participation in the sport.
Whilst we do everything we can during our events to ensure our participants are as safe as possible, we recognise that safety concerns can limit many women’s ability to train for an ultra, particularly during the dark winter months or in remote locations.
To help counter this, as part of our commitment to welcoming 500 first-time female ultrarunners to our events in 2025, we’re offering the first 100 women to sign up to a Threshold Trail Series events in January a free Threshold-branded headtorch.
Whilst it’s a small gesture, our hope is that this simple piece of kit will highlight the societal challenges faced by women training in the darker winter months and encourage more women to consider taking on a new challenge, and in turn experience the life-changing magic of ultras.
How Does It Work?
The first 100 women to sign up to a Threshold Trail Series event in January will be contacted within seven days of completing their purchase via email. Once you’ve confirmed you’d like to receive it, your headtorch will be shipped free of charge. If you’d prefer not to receive the headtorch, it will be passed on to the next person in line.
