We’re removing all single-use plastic cups and cutlery from our Threshold events in 2018
At Threshold, one of the guiding principles of our events has always been ‘breathless sightseeing’. This means putting on events that get people out into the most beautiful parts of the world whilst supporting them to achieve something that seems at the limit of their abilities.
Protecting the trails for the next generation
We are enormously proud of the effort our team puts into helping people achieve their goals, but we know the real stars of the show are the landscapes we pass through. We also know that these places are under more environmental pressure than ever before and we have a responsibility to protect them for the next generation.
That is why we are making a pledge for our Threshold events to be totally free of single-use plastic cups and cutlery from 2018 onwards. This will mean a saving of over 70,000 cups compared to last year and is a small step on the way to reducing our environmental footprint. We have already significantly reduced our usage of single-use plastics, we only use bottled water in emergencies and whenever possible we send our left-over supplies to food and clothing banks.
However, know there is more to do, and we are reviewing everything from reducing electrical consumption through to recycling old tents and mattresses. We need to balance a competitive entry fee with reducing environmental impact, but we feel this is another step in the right direction.
Minimising impact for you and the environment
We will be sending out specific guidance on what this means for each event in due course and we are confident this will have minimal, if any, impact on your enjoyment of the events.
The benefits of our challenges are enormous from healthier people through to the millions of £s raised each year for good causes. We are also proud to be striving to do our bit for the environment along the way.
